Roque au Fabii
the Poet
A soft-spoken, poetry-quoting strategist who has more conscience than anyone in House Mars. Darrow keeps him close because he makes them all seem better than they are.
Roque au Fabii is an unusually thoughtful Gold, and quite possibly the most gifted naval mind of his generation. He is also the only person in Darrow's circle who actually loves the Society, believing in its beauty and in the idea that order is a form of kindness.
As Imperator of the Sword Armada he is defeated at Ilium and his flagship taken. He takes his own life rather than live in what is coming, and Darrow mourns him anyway.
