Ragnar Volarus is a Stained Obsidian from the Valkyrie Spires. Captured with the Vanguard, he offers his service to Darrow.
He had belonged to the Ash Lord and was to be given to House Julii with the ship. Darrow later tells him the truth about the Colors and lets him choose whether to fight for the rebellion.
He joins the Howlers and returns to the Martian pole with Darrow’s expedition to seek an alliance with his people. Aja fatally wounds him. At his request, Darrow ends his suffering before the expedition reaches his mother’s court. His sister Sefi subsequently leads the Valkyrie into the Rising.
Sefi reveals that Volga was bred from Ragnar’s genetic material in a Grimmus facility.
When he meets Darrow aboard the Vanguard, Ragnar still has a razor lodged in his body. He introduces himself as Alia’s firstborn and Sefi’s brother.
