Obsidian
Vast warriors bred for the Golds' wars, raised at the planets' icy poles in an enforced religious ignorance. They are told that their masters are gods, and they believe it.
Ragnar is the first of them in the story to be freed, and through him Darrow learns what the Golds have stolen.
When the truth reaches the Valkyries, the Obsidians become a people and a very large problem. See The Volk.
Obsidians stand nearly twice the size of a lowRed, often pale as marble, with eyes black as oil. The Crows Darrow sees at the flogging have eight fingers on each hand. They were given the poles of planets and the religion of the Norse, and were told that the Golds are their gods. Reds call them Crows.
